Stitcher Radio App is Awesome!

Stream podcasts or radio stations on-demand to your Apple, Blackberry, Android, or Palm device with Stitcher Radio.

After becoming fed up with my “i heart radio” app.  I searched for another radio app.  That is when I discovered the Stitcher Radio App.

I must say it works pretty good on my iPhone 4.  I have used it a lot, thanks MULTITASKING!  Sticher streams well.  I have used it for a little over a week.  It handle weak data coverage areas very well.  (major fail for “i heart radio“) It streamed nearly perfect during my trip from Louisville, KY to Nashville, TN, surviving many AT&T “Dead Zone” spots.

Also, it has a great selection of programs.  It has everything I could think of that I wanted.  Radio, podcast, news updates…

I really like the favorite tab that let you pick your favorites and push play.  It automatically plays what you haven’t listen to and also refreshes the info when a newer version of your feed has been released.

Sticher has a few bugs, but nothing to annoying.  A few times I had a frozen screen and it crashed once or twice in the past week.  Restart of the app always fixes it.

Lastly, They offer a “Premium Service” but I have yet to see a need for this. It seems like 98% of the programs are free.  So far, I haven’t even wanted any of the “Premium” shows.

So check it out.  Also, feel free to comment below.

App Spotlight: Line2 by Toktumi | Best VOIP. Bar None.

iPhone Screenshot 2

Line2 by Toktumi.

I ran accross Line2 a few months ago.  Now I find myself unable to live with out it.

Simply put, It give you unlimited minutes on your iPhone or computer for a cost of $15 a month.

Pros: Great use if you are a heavy cellphone user.  Now I am able to use the lowest minute plan available.  Head and Shoulder over any other VOIP service I have tried.

Cons: Wish it was more like $10 bucks a month.  But still worth doing.  Sometime there is a glitch in the VOIP, but usually a fresh restart fixes it.

Best iPhone 4 LED FlashLight Apps Reviewed.

The search for the best iPhone 4 LED flashlight App?

During the first hours of getting my hands on my new iPhone 4.  I noticed apple had left a simple function out of all their new features for the iPhone 4. The only way you could use the Iphone 4′s LED flash as a “flashlight” was to open the Camera App, click the video, then click “Flash On”.  This was way to many steps if you were simply wanting to pull out your iPhone to use it to find your keys, dig through a purse, or find your way across a dark room for a midnight snack. Not to mention that this way of doing it, automatically paused your music.

So, like a well trained iPhone user.  I thought, there must be an app for that.  To my disappointment there was not one app that could use the iPhone 4′s LED Flash as a flashlight.

So after two seconds of thinking I could make millions with a new iPhone App i searched google and found many developers, most submitted the day the iPhone 4 came out, were waiting for Apple to approve there apps.

So I joined the wait.

Now that wait is over.  Yesterday, a blinding amount (pun intended) of flashlight for iPhone 4 Apps hit the market.

I looked over the available apps and thought i would pass on a few suggestions.

Update: The Flashlight App is now renamed to Pocket LED Light.

My best paid pick: The Flashlight App Pocket LED Light.

By Ti Studios LLC

The Flashlight App.

Pocket LED Light for only 99 cents.

Included Features:

- Two different flashlight themes that use the LED flash on the phone.

- A dimmer light that uses your screen for a light and comes with an adjustable brightness setting.

- Classic Light Bulb giving off light in both directions.

- Strobe Light with adjustable speed dial to keep the party going.

- Morse code theme with the Morse code keys on screen. Use the flash for a Morse code signal.

- Auto On feature to allow the flashlight to start when you open the app. Instant light for those dark times!

- Swipe to change between themes.

- Works with background music.

I really liked this app because of the Auto On, light bulb light, and morse code freatures.  Well worth a $1.  I hope in future updated they add a Auto SOS button in the morse code feature.  Oh, and a real (brighter) lightbulb illuminated would be cool.

My best free pick: Flashlight 4G App

iPhone 4 Debuted Today, Hits stores June 24th.

Apple iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 debuted today (well kinda, nearly everyone has seen the leaked photos that seem really close to the official) at the WWDC 2010.

While I was unimpressed with the overall Keynote speech by Steve Jobs, especially that there was nothing else mention besides the already leaked new iPhone. Oh, one quick funny, the first Demo wouldn’t load on Wifi or 3G and someone from the crowd yelled, “Try Verizon”  Funny!

Anyway, I am most impressed with the new design, very high tech and it just makes sense.  Some features we have been waiting a long time for others (a few little things) are a surprise. Here is the highlights of what the new iPhone can do.  (specs taken strait from apple.com)

First of all the price and availability:

iPhone 4

-

Pre-order starts June 15.
Available June 24.

16 gig $199 (with AT&T contract)

32 gig $299 (with AT&T contract)

iPhone 4 arrives on June 24, and you can pre-order or reserve yours on June 15. To stay up to date on the latest iPhone news you can give them your email to be notified of the release and other news. Go to: http://www.apple.com/iphone/notify-me/

Highlights

Cool New Design (I am impressed with the tech behind this)

  • Engineered Glass – Both sides of the phone are covered in glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass — the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It’s also recyclable.
  • Stainless Steel Band – Created from our own alloy, then forged to be five times stronger than standard steel, the band is the mounting point for all the components of iPhone 4. The band provides impressive structural rigidity and allows for its incredibly thin, refined design. It also functions as both iPhone 4 antennas.
  • Apple A4 processor – Apple engineers designed the A4 chip to be a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor. With it, iPhone 4 can easily perform complex jobs such as multitasking, editing video, and placing FaceTime calls. All while maximizing battery life.

2 Cameras, 5 MP photos, and HD video, Video Calling!

  • Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio (Can be edited with NEW iMovie for iPhone. Very Cool.)
  • 5-megapixel still Back camera (was hoping for a little more megapixels.)
  • VGA-quality photos and video at up to 30 frames per second with the front camera  (Able to do “Facetime” Video Chat on Wifi only)
  • Tap to focus video or still images
  • LED flash (finally)
  • Photo and video geotagging

Sweet Display

  • Retina display
  • 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
  • 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi (Better than what your eyes can see at 10 inches away)
  • 800:1 contrast ratio (typical)
  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front and back
  • Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously

Power and battery (these specs are with a dimmed screen i am sure)

  • Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
  • Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
  • Talk time:
Up to 7 hours on 3G
Up to 14 hours on 2G
  • Standby time: Up to 300 hours
  • Internet use:
    Up to 6 hours on 3G  (4G ???)
Up to 10 hours on Wi-Fi
  • Video playback: Up to 10 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

Apple’s iPhone replaces Blackberry

While many of you our there are afraid to make the switch from BlackBerry to iPhone.  It appears the switch is not so hard, and even worth it.  A lot of people say that the iPhone is not secure enough, but according to this article, It is secure enough for a very large british bank.

iPhone vs BlackBerry

Reuters reports:

“SINGAPORE/HONG KONG, May 17 (Reuters) – British bank Standard Chartered is replacing the Blackberry, currently its standard corporate communication device, with the iPhone, a move that could eventually result in thousands of its bankers switching to the Apple (AAPL.O) device for business communication on the go.”

HTC HD2! One of the best Windows Mobile phones around.

T-Mobile HTC HD2 is being touted as one of the best Windows Mobile phones around.

HTC HD2I got to play with one the other day.  Andy M. blogger for  www.htcfanatic.com allowed me to play around with his new HD2.  I must say I was very impressed with the HTC’s Sense UI, I really enjoyed feel of the device.  It has a beautiful screen and a very innovative way of typing on the touch screen keyboard.

PhoneScoop.com remarked, ” The HD2 the it is the best Windows Mobile phone on the market (though the Touch Pro 2 is no slouch if you need a keyboard). Near the end of this year, Microsoft will release the first Windows Phone 7 devices, but I think the HTC HD2 will hold its own against the newcomers, and I wouldn’t advise buyers to hold out if they find the HD2 appealing. It’s the most polished Windows Phone HTC has produced, with so many details accounted for and surprise features thrown in that they were almost too numerous to count. From the detailed calling screens that show you contact info, messages and Facebook updates for your caller, to the accelerometer gestures to silence the phone or activate the speakerphone, the HTC HD2 represents some of the most innovative thinking of one of the best smartphone makers around. I can’t imagine a first generation phone on Microsoft’s new mobile OS will have the same level of polish and completeness.

It isn’t all great news. The touchscreen doesn’t work as well as I’d like, especially in apps that should take the spotlight on such a large screen, like the Web browser and the GPS maps. There are some cool movie options from BlockBuster, but these are nearly ruined by the horrible, ancient Windows Media Player. The HTC HD2 may be one of the best smartphones for calling, messaging and business tasks, but it still concedes to Apple’s iPhone what the iPhone has always done best, which is entertainment. The HD2 is not a great pick for music, movies or games, and that’s a disappointment considering lush, expansive touchscreen. I’m also disappointed that T-Mobile dropped the Wi-Fi tethering feature I liked so much on the international version of this phone.”  - by Philip Berne,  April 9, 2010

Upcoming mobile phones

Just found a great new website for learning about upcoming new mobile phones.  This post has a lot of the phones coming out over the next few months.  The best part is that you can choose by the next few months or even by the upcoming quarters.  Great Resorce.  Big thanks to Damian Koh of CNET Asia.

“Whenever you’re shopping for a cell phone–or any high-tech item, for that matter–it’s good to know what products are on the horizon. That way, you won’t end up wishing that you’d waited a few weeks for that next-generation model the salesperson conveniently forgot to mention. Thus, we’ve come up with our handy list of release dates for mobile phones, complete with some of the key specifications and photos. ”
